Why Smoothies (As If You Needed A Reason…)
When I work with clients to tweak their diet and get in more healing, nutrient-dense foods, the easiest place to start is usually breakfast. As an added bonus, getting in a good breakfast can really set you up for a positive day by forcing you to slow down your morning just a little bit and focus on yourself- even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
What’s In This Green Smoothie
When it comes to smoothies, I’ve been around the block once or twice (or thrice). I’ve got two other green smoothie recipes and they’re both refreshing, hydrating and delicious (check them out here and here)
But I wanted to share with you a green smoothie that you could have for breakfast. One that would fuel you properly- so you don’t start craving muffins at 10am. One that would actually pack a protein punch- but without protein powder and instead drawing only on whole foods.
So that’s what we’ve got. In this Tropical Green Protein Smoothie you get fiber from the kale and chia seeds, protein and fats from raw cashews and chia seeds, a dose of dark leafy greens, loads of natural hydration and micronutrients from pineapple and banana, and fresh ginger for flavor and added gut health benefits.
Ingredients
1 big handful of kale (stems removed)
1/2 cup cashews (raw, unsalted)
1T chia seeds
1/2 medium banana (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1 cup cold water
coconut flakes (optional)
Directions
Place all ingredients (except the coconut flakes) in a blender and blend on high until smooth. Pour into a glass, sprinkle coconut flakes on top, and enjoy!
